Through talk therapy, therapists can empathetically help clients sort through thoughts and feelings and help them make positive behavioral changes. The first time you meet with your therapist will be your “intake session” where your therapist will ask questions to get to know you and the reasons you are seeking therapy. Then you, with the help of your therapist, will set goals for therapy. It is important to have a direction in mind for therapy to be successful. It is most common for therapy sessions to be scheduled once a week in the beginning and then transition to meeting twice a month to eventually once a month as you get closer to termination. Your therapist will give you their professional recommendation based on your individual case.
